10 Habits for Staying Healthy This Fall

With summer winding down and fall settling in, it’s the perfect time to adjust our routines to stay healthy through the cooler months. As the crisp air replaces the summer heat, and vibrant leaves blanket the ground, we also face the season's challenges like allergies, colds, and the flu. To help you navigate fall with ease, here are my top 10 habits for staying healthy and thriving this season:

1. Embrace Weekly Acupuncture

Regular acupuncture treatments can boost your immune system and support digestive health. Since 75% of your immune system is in your gut, acupuncture helps stimulate optimal intestinal function and keep your defenses strong.

2. Stick to Your Chinese Herbal Formula

Consistency is key with your prescribed Chinese herbal formula. These herbs act as a preventative measure, helping to fend off common bacteria and viruses that can cause illness.

3. Make Exercise a Daily Habit

Exercise doesn’t have to mean hitting the gym. Find a physical activity that you enjoy and make it part of your daily routine, even if it’s just 30 minutes a day. This will keep your Qi flowing, reduce stress, and improve your mood.

4. Dress Appropriately for the Weather

As temperatures drop, layer up with a hat, scarf, and gloves to protect yourself from the cold and wind. Staying warm helps prevent seasonal illnesses.

5. Stay Hydrated

Aim to drink 64-80 ounces of water daily. Hot tea with lemon and honey is especially beneficial; lemons help cleanse the liver, while honey soothes sore throats and supports your immune system against allergies.

6. Eat a Rainbow of Fruits and Vegetables

Strive to include seven servings of colorful fruits and veggies in your daily diet. For example, start your day with oatmeal topped with chopped apples, walnuts, and honey. Enjoy a hearty salad for lunch, and finish with steamed veggies and roasted chicken for dinner. This variety helps strengthen your immune system.

7. Incorporate Omega Fatty Acids

Consume at least 2 grams of fish oil daily, or enjoy 4 ounces of fish like salmon or tuna three times a week. If you’re vegetarian or vegan, add chia seeds, flax seeds, and nuts to your diet. Omega fatty acids reduce inflammation and support healthy skin.

8. Start a Meditation Practice

Even a brief daily meditation can make a big difference. Spend 5 minutes in a quiet space focusing on your breath. It’s a simple way to reduce stress and improve mental clarity.

9. Limit Alcohol Intake

Keep alcohol consumption to 2-3 drinks per week. Moderation helps maintain your overall health and well-being.

10. Stay Informed
